I Giullari di Piazza to Present ‘Capodanno in Allegria’

By David Salazar

I Giullari di Piazza is set to present “Capodanno in Allegria,” a concert version of the full-length “La Cantata dei Pastori” by 17th-century playwright Andrea Perrucci.

The showcase is set for Jan. 3, 2026, at 5 p.m. at the Italian American Museum.

The concert features Renaissance-era Neapolitan music, including tarantellas, villanellas, and pastorales drawn from traditional sources, alongside original music by John La Barbera. The adaptation and stage direction are by Alessandra Belloni. Songs will be performed in Italian as well as historic Neapolitan and Sicilian dialects, with narration in English.

A special appearance will be made by Giorgio Maltese, who performs the traditional “Christmas Pastorale” on the Southern Italian bagpipe (zampogna).
