Rosebud Group Announces ‘Figaro,’ Based on Rossini’s Famed Opera

By David Salazar

The Rosebud Group has announced “Figaro,” a new musical based on Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville,” which will hold a paid reading in New York City in October and November.

The production is set in Miami Beach, Florida. Producer Dennis Kelly Higgins, who is also directing, describes it as a cross between a Broadway musical and a classical opera. The reading will take place at a Midtown Manhattan studio over three days, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Higgins began his producing career working with Sherwin Goldman on the Broadway production of Houston Grand Opera’s “Porgy and Bess.” His other credits include Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Bombay Dreams,” Georges Bizet’s “Djamileh” and the New York premiere of Joe Orton’s “What the Butler Saw.”
