Livermore Valley Opera to Honor Erie Mill with Tribute Concert

By David Salazar

Livermore Valley Opera (LVO) will honor its late Artistic Director Laureate, coloratura soprano Erie Mills, with a free tribute concert on Nov. 11 at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore, Calif.

Soprano Avery Boettcher, soprano Christie Conover, soprano Amy Owens, mezzo-soprano Courtney Miller, tenor Jamie Flora, baritone Eugene Brancoveanu and baritone Bobby Mellon will perform with an orchestra led by LVO Music Director Alexander Katsman. Jonathan Kleid, Clark Bason, Brian Leudloff and Layna Chianakas will speak about Mills’ music and artistry.

“Erie was the north star of this company and gave LVO her artistry, standards and heart,” said Kleid, president of the LVO Board of Directors, per an official press release.

Mills died on June 23, 2026, at the age of 73. She served as LVO’s artistic director from 2016 and had championed the company since 2009. During a singing career of more than 25 years, she performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, the Vienna Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera, Santa Fe Opera and New York City Opera. Her signature roles included Zerbinetta in Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” and Cunegonde in Bernstein’s “Candide.”

Following her death, the LVO Board of Directors named Mills Artistic Director Laureate, an honorary title she will hold in perpetuity. The board also established The Erie Mills Legacy Fund to continue the work she cared about most.

“A Tribute to Erie Mills” will begin at 7 p.m.
