
Guild Opera Company to Present ‘Il Trovatore’
By David SalazarCalifornia’s Guild Opera Company will present Giuseppe Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” in concert on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Glendale.
The performance, offered free to the public through the support of Darcy and Richard Kopcho, stars baritone David Hodgson as Conte di Luna, tenor David De Melo as Manrico, soprano Emma Berggren as Leonora, mezzo-soprano Julia Powers as Azucena, and bass Dennis Rupp as Ferrando. Pianist Helen Wu will interpret the orchestral part. The Guild Opera Company Chorus will be led by Artistic Director Gabriel Reoyo Pazos.
Hodgson, founder of the Ridgecrest Opera Guild, has performed principal roles in “Rigoletto,” “Pagliacci,” and “The Tales of Hoffmann.” De Melo has appeared in “Aida,” “Cavalleria Rusticana,” and “Tosca” across North America and Europe, while Powers, a member of the LA Master Chorale, has sung with the Antelope Valley Symphony and Mission Opera. Finally, Berggren has appeared in “Tosca,” “La Traviata,” and “Macbeth” and was a Bayreuth-Stipendium recipient. Rupp has performed internationally, including appearances with Anchorage Opera and Opera San José.
Wu, a graduate of USC and the Juilliard School, has appeared with the Pacific Symphony and performed at major international festivals.
