The Grand Théâtre de Genève has announced a cast change for its March 4 performance.

The company said, “due to health reasons, the baritone Simon Keenlyside is unfortunately forced to cancel his visit to Geneva for the recital scheduled for Saturday, March 4, 2023.”

The company added, “following this cancellation, the Grand Théâtre has the great pleasure of hosting as a replacement and on the same date the German baritone Benjamin Appl who came to charm us with a memorable Winterreise in fall 2019. This time he will present Robert Schumann ‘Dichterliebe’s’ cycle surrounded by melodies by Schubert, Grieg, and Kurtág!”

For his part, Appl said, “If anyone of you is around Geneva tomorrow, I would be delighted to see you at Grand Théâtre de Genève for this recital with Malcolm Martineau. I wish my fantastic and inspirational colleague Simon Keenlyside a speedy recovery.”

Appl is set to perform in Hannover, Barcelona, Hamburg, London, Paris, and Krakow.
