Golda Schultz, Julia Bullock & Gustavo Dudamel Headline LA Philharmonic’s 2019-20 Season

The LA Philharmonic has announced its 2019-20 season featuring numerous world premieres and a number of superstars. Here is a look at what the season has to offer.

Please note that we have only announced the vocal performances.

Julia Bullock headlines a concert that includes Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915,” Gershwin’s Concerto in F, the world premiere of Andre Previn’s new work for orchestra, and Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite. Gustavo Dudamel conducts and Jean-Yves Thibaudet also performs.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3-6 2019

Kristin Lewis and Mihoko Fujimura headline Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with Zubin Mehta conducting.

Performance dates: Oct. 25, 2019 & Jan. 3-5, 2020

Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the world premiere of his work “Castor and Pollux” and Sibelius’ Luonnotar and Symphony No.5. Golda Schultz joins the conductor and the LA Philharmonic.

Performance Dates:  Oct. 26, 2019

Gustavo Dudamel conducts Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Golda Schultz, Tamara Mumford, Mario Chang, and James Rutherford as soloists. The concert also includes Gabriela Ortiz’s new work for chorus and orchestra. 

Performance Date: Oct. 27, 2019

Soprano Chen Reiss headlines New Year’s Eve with Zubin Mehta conducting an all-Strauss program.

Performance Dates: Jan. 1, 2020

Christine Goerke sings the Immolation scene from Wagner’s “Gotterdämmerung.” The concert also includes the Rhine Journey and Funeral Music as well as Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony and Webern’s Six Pieces for Orchestra and Concerto for Nine Instruments, Op. 24. Zubin Mehta conducts. 

Performance Dates: Jan 10-12, 2020

Jordi Savall leads the La Capella Reial de Catalunya in baroque works by Iberian composers with soloists Lucía Martín-Cartón, Viva Biancaluna Biffi, Víctor Sordo, Yannis François, Juan Manuel Quintana, Xavier Puertas, Xavier Díaz-Latorre, Andrew Lawrence-King, and David Mayoral.

Performance Dates: Feb.2, 2020

Daníel Bjarnason conducts a program that includes Toru Takemitsu’s “Orion,” the world premiere of Thuridur Jonsdotter’s new work for ensemble, Brent Sorensen’s Mignon – Papillons, Kaija Saariaho’s 7 Papillons for solo cello, and the U.S. Premiere of Daníel Bjarnason’s song cycle for soprano and ensemble. He is joined by pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, soprano Mariam Wallentin, and cellist István Várdai. 

Performance Date: Feb. 4, 2020

Saul Williams and Ted Hearne’s “Place” makes its west coast premiere with vocalists Steven Bradshaw, Sophia Byrd, Josephine Lee, Isaiah Robinson, Sol Ruiz, and Ayanna Woods. Hearne conducts the piece by the Beth Morrison projects.

Performance Dates: March 24, 2020

Bernard Labadie conducts Faure and Durufle’s Requiems with soprano Lydia Teuscher, mezzo-soprano, Julie Boulianne, and baritone Jean-François Lapointe. 

Performance Dates: March 27-29, 2020
