Francesco Meli has received the Croce d’Oro di San Giorgio.

The tenor took to social media to announce the news and said, “An unexpected award, crowning a career that began over twenty years ago! Happy and Honored, I thank the Liguria Region and the President Giovanni Toti for choosing me and considering me worthy of this honor. It is a privilege to be an ambassador of Genoa and Liguria throughout the world. THANK YOU.”

Meli received the award following performances of “Don Carlo” at the Teatro alla Scala. The tenor is the Artistic Director and one of the tutors at the Academy of Advanced Professional Training for opera singers at Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice.
