Finger Lakes Opera’s ‘Behind the Curtain’ Series Returns with New Episodes

By Logan Martell

On March 30, 2021, Finger Lakes Opera Artistic Director and founder Gerard Floriano’s video podcast series, titled “Behind the Curtain,” returned for new episodes, featuring conversations with prominent American stage directors.

The first episode saw Floriano in conversation with Fenlon Lamb, who was stage director for FLO’s productions of “La Traviata” and “Tosca.” Lamb is also the co-creator of Papermoon Opera Productions and has served as Director of Opera at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music for three years.

The next episode, on April 20, will be joined by Gary Johnson La Rosa, who directed FLO’s 2018 production of “Die Fledermaus.” Currently an Adjunct Professor at Montclair State University, La Rosa has directed/choreographed over 200 productions across hundreds of venues in opera, Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theaters, and more.

May 11’s episode will feature Michael Ehrman, who directed FLO’s 2019 production of “La Bohème.” With a career in the arts spanning over 40 years, Ehrman recently served as Director of Opera at Northwestern University for six years.

The final episode, on May 25, will allow listeners to call in and ask questions to director Stephanie Havey. The newest stage director to join FLO’s team, Havey is the winner of the Adelaide Bishop award for artistic quality, and OPERA America’s Director-Designer Showcases. She and Floriano will also discuss the company’s upcoming production of “The Barber of Seville,” with listeners eligible for a ticket giveaway and win other discounts to future FLO performances.

All episodes will be available to watch on Finger Lakes Opera’s YouTube channel, and the first three will be available on their Facebook page.
