
Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center Celebrates Second Season Under Music & Artistic Director Jonathon Heyward
By Afton MarkayThe Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center celebrates its second season under the Renée and Robert Belfer Music & Artistic Director Jonathon Heyward with several premieres, commissions, and exciting performances.
“Connected Perceptions,” a world premiere commission by James Lee III. Soprano Gabriella Reyes performs Britten’s “Les illuminations” and Golijov’s “Three Songs for Soprano and Orchestra.” Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist alumni soprano Erika Baikoff, tenor Eric Ferring, bass-baritone Ben Strong, and Denyce Graves (narrator) present Act I of Mozart’s “Zaide.”
Other events led by Heyward include the return of “Symphony of Choice,” the relaxed open rehearsal of “The Beethoven Effect” designed for people with autism, sensory or communication disorders or learning disabilities, as well as continued collaborations with the New York Philharmonic through their Very Young Composers Program (VYC) and the New York City Public Schools’ Summer Arts Institute (SAI).
Heyward also continues the exploration of Robert Schumann’s four symphonies through the lens of mental health, presented in collaboration with Jameel Arts & Health Lab, established with the World Health Organization (WHO).
