Soprano Ermonela Jaho has been named an Opera for Peace ambassador.

Albanian soprano Jaho is recognized for her portrayals of opera characters in Baroque, bel canto, and verismo repertoire. She recently recorded “Turandot” with Warner Classics and Erato CD which was nominated for best Opera album at the 2023 Gramophone Awards, and “Fuoco Sacro,” with Michael Kelly, Asmik Grigorian, and Barbara Hannigan. In 2023 she was awarded the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) Artist of the Year.

She was quoted saying “I love to help young singers find their voice in the new open world. When I read the mission of Opera for Peace I found a soul companion towards our common goal.” Part of the mission statement reads, “Opera for Peace is a non-profit organization that develops high-level careers for the greatest talents coming from six continents, many of whom would not have had these opportunities otherwise. They in turn commit to inspiring the next generations of artists and audiences.”

Other Opera for Peace ambassadors include Fatma Said, Lawrence Brownlee, Nicole Car, Rihab Chaieb, Etienne Dupuis, Ying Fang, Lidiya Yankovskaya, and more.

Jaho’s next appearance is at “Les Arts es Lied” recital concert in Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia on Feb. 4, with Ruben Fernandez Aguirre conducting.
