Elgan Llŷr Thomas, Brett Polegato, Otar Jorjikia, James Rutherford, Ginger Costa-Jackson Headline Grange Park Opera’s 2026 Season

Grange Park Opera has announced its 2026 summer season, running from June 4 through July 12 at its West Horsley Place opera house in Surrey.

The season opens with the world premiere of Sir John Tavener’s “Krishna,” a mystic pantomime blending dance, ritualised tableaux, and an ethereal sound world built around eight flutes. Sir David Pountney directs. The cast features Elgan Llŷr Thomas and Brett Polegato sharing the title role across the character’s life stages, alongside Julia Sitkovetsky as Radha, Sara Fulgoni as Yashoda, Nazan Fikret as Rukmini, and Ross Ramgobin as the Celestial Narrator. Mark Shanahan conducts. The production will subsequently travel to Houston Grand Opera in autumn 2027.

Verdi’s “Don Carlo” follows, directed by Jo Davies. The cast is led by Otar Jorjikia in the title role alongside Matthew Rose as King Philip II, Michel de Souza as Rodrigo, Elin Pritchard as Elisabeth de Valois, Ruxandra Donose as Princess Eboli, and Julian Close as the Grand Inquisitor. Gianluca Marciano and George Jackson conduct.

Wagner’s “Das Rheingold” marks the beginning of Grange Park Opera’s Ring Cycle, arriving exactly 150 years after the Bayreuth premiere. Charles Edwards directs and designs the new production, with Harry Sever on the podium. The all-British cast features James Rutherford as Wotan, Christine Rice as Fricka, David Stout as Alberich, Mark Le Brocq as Loge, Matthew Rose as Fasolt, David Shipley as Fafner, Adrian Thompson as Mime, Sara Fulgoni as Erda, Rachel Nicholls as Freia, and Ailish Tynan, Olivia Rose Tringham, and Charlotte Bateman as the three Rhinemaidens. The Orchestra of English National Opera plays.

Performance Dates: June 14 – July 10, 2026


Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” concludes the season in a production directed by Bruno Ravella. Ginger Costa-Jackson leads the cast as Rosina, joined by James Newby as Figaro, Nico Darmanin as Count Almaviva, Simon Bailey as Bartolo, Julian Close as Basilio, and Ailish Tynan as Berta. Gianluca Marciano conducts.
