Louise Alder, Iréne Theorin, Nina Stemme, Stephen Costello, Lawrence Brownlee & Hera Hyesang Park Lead Edinburgh International Festival’s 2026 Season

The Edinburgh International Festival has announced its 2026 season. Here are the vocal performances.

Opera

Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek’s “The Galloping Cure” will make its world premiere with Stuart Stratford conducting the Scottish Opera and Tom Morris directing. 

Performance Dates: August 9-12, 2026 


Konstantin Krimmel lead Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with Brindley Sherratt, Louise Alder, Giovanni Sala, Janai Brugger, Michael Sumuel, William Thomas, and Hera Hyesang Park.

Performance Date: August 16, 2026


Karina Canellakis conducts the BBC Symphony in a concert version of Strauss’ “Elektra” with Iréne Theorin, Vida Miknevičiūtė, Nina Stemme, and Günther Groissböck.

Performance Date: August 23, 2026


The Zürich Opera House’s production of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” will be led by Gianandrea Noseda and directed by Adele Thomas. Verdi’s famed opera will feature two casts. Stephen Costello and Elena Stikhina will play the ill-fated lovers Riccardo and Amelia in one cast, while Piero Pretti and Erika Grimaldi will headline the other one. Other cast members include Dalibor Jenis, George Petean, Yulia Matochkina, Agnieszka Rehlis, Rebecca Olvera, Katharina Konradi, Steffan Lloyd Owen, Brent Michael Smith, Stanislav Vorobyov, Martin Zysset, and Samuel Wallace.

Concerts

Beth Taylor and Hamish Brown perform music in Greek, Latin, French, English, Orcadian, Scots, and German.

Performance Date: August 11, 2026


Lawrence Brownlee and Iain Burnside perform Italian and American songs. 

Performance Date: August 12, 2026


The Edinburgh Festival Chorus under Sofi Jeannin perform in a concert titled, “This Shining Night.”

Performance Date: August 13, 2026


Gustavo Dudamel and Women of the Los Angeles Master Chorale perform music by Gabriela Ortiz and Beethoven. 

Performance Date: August 14, 2026


The Gesualdo Six perform.

Performance Date: August 15, 2026


Louise Alder and James Baillieu perform music by Brahms. 

Performance Date: August 18, 2026


Julie Roset and Susan Manoff perform in recital. 

Performance Date: August 27, 2026


Sir Donald Runnicles conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducts Mahler’s “Das klagende Lied” with soloists Kathleen O’Mara, Catriona Morison, John Findon, and Nicholas Brownlee.
