E4TT to Perform ‘Women in Transit’

By Afton Markay

Ensemble for These Times (E4TT) is set to perform “Women in Transit,” its newest commissioning initiative and the centerpiece of the group’s 2024- 25 season.

The multimedia musical evening explores women’s migration and identity in a program featuring three instrumental commissioned world premieres by Opera America Discovery Grant recipient Niloufar Nourbakhsh, Han Lash, and Tamara McLeod. Also on the program are works by Leilehua Lanzilotti and Emma O’Halloran, as well as the winning entry in the E4TT/TAC Multimedia Student Composition Competition.

Update – March 17, 2025: The company revealed that Clark Evans’ “Who Are You Now?” will be added to the program. Evans is the winner of the Fifth E4TT / TAC Student Multimedia Composition Competition.

Soprano Nanette McGuinness will perform the winning commission with violinist Lylia Guion, cellist Megan Chartier, and pianist Taylor Chan. They will be joined by dancer Han Lash. A pre-concert talk with Lash, Nourbakhsh, and McLeod, and filmmaker Pegah Pasalar is scheduled for thirty minutes prior to downbeat.

SF Conservatory of Music’s Cha Chi Ming Hall hosts “Women in Transit” on April 4, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will also be livestreamed on the Conservatory’s Vimeo channel.
