The Center for Contemporary Opera will present the workshop-premiere in concert for Niloufar Nourbakhsh’s “We, The Innumerable.”

The work, which features a libretto by Lisa Flanagan, will be presented on Oct. 21, 2022 at the National Sawdust.

The work is set during Iran’s Green Movement and features one woman’s fight for freedom in the face of state-sanctioned violence.

“The October 21 performance comes at a time when thousands of Iranian women are at the forefront of the anti-government uprising following Mahsa Amini’s death, removing their headscarves on the streets and burning them in protest of the compulsory Hijab,” the company said in an official press release.

Harris Doran will direct with Sara Jobin conducting a cast starring soprano Cristina Bakhoum Sanchez in the role of Roya; tenor Morgan Manifacier as Siavash; lyric soprano Mary-Hollis Hundley as Maryam; and bass Joseph Trumbo as the Chief Interrogator.
