Chicago Summer Opera Announces 2025 Season

The lineup for Chicago Summer Opera has been released.

The program is split into two sessions. Each group of students will participate in role preparation, vocal technique, dramatic preparation, audition technique, and stage movement, and more. Each singer either receives a full role or cover role. All productions are staged and performed with an orchestra. This year’s vocal faculty includes Elizabeth Byrne, Nicole Cabell, Allan Glassman, Alexandra LoBianco, Jeff Mattsey, and Viktoria Vizin​.

Handel’s “Silla” opens the 2025 season. Marinette Gomez directs.

Performance Dates: July 9 & 12, 2025

A double bill of “The Medium” by Menotti and “Gianni Schicchi” by Puccini is up next. Mark Ross Clark directs.
Artistic Director Codrut Birsan conducts.

Performance Dates: July 10 & 12, 2025

“Lakme” by Delibes is conducted by Adriano Spampanato and directed by Cathleen Dunn.

Performance Dates: July 11 & 13, 2025

Starting off the second session is “Alcina” by Handel. Adriano Spampanato conducts. Cathleen Dunn serves as director.

Performance Dates: August 2 & 5, 2025

“Ariadne auf Naxos” by Strauss is conducted by Marlon Daniel. Josh Miller directs.

Performance Dates: August 3 & 6, 2025

“Magic Flute” by Mozart is conducted by Curtis Serafin​.

Performance Dates: August 7 & 9, 2025

Closing out the season is Puccini’s “La Boheme.” Mark Ross Clark directs and Codrut Birsan conducts.

Performance Dates: August 8 & 10, 2025
