Bregenz Festival Cancels 2020 Edition

The Bregenz Festival has officially shut down its 2020 edition.

The cancelation comes after the Austrian government unveiled its latest plan to reopen to culture sector. Per the new regulations, public events of up to 1,000 people would not be open until August if all goes according to plan. The festival usually seats 7,000.

The news comes as the Salzburg Festival announced that it would study the possibility of a modified program for its festival this summer. Meanwhile in other countries, such as Spain and Italy, opera festivals will move forward under altered programs and circumstances that will ensure safety for audience and performers.

Austria has 16,108 confirmed cases of the coronavirus with 628 confirmed deaths. The country last reported 50 new cases and also announced that 15,099 cases were closed.
