Margot Rood, Sophie Michaux, Laura Pudwell, and Jason McStoots star in Blue Heron’s “Le Rossignol musical.”

The Renaissance and medieval vocal music ensemble’s first concert of the season features songs about “love and freedom, and nightingales and other musical birds” with works by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Claude Le Jeune, Andreas Pevernage, Cipriano De Rore, and more.

This program premiered at Antwerp’s Laus Polyphoniae festival in August 2023.

First Church in Cambridge, Congregational hosts the Oct. 14 concert. Kate van Orden will give a free pre-concert talk starting at 2:15 p.m.
