Frederick Ballentine, Michael Mayes & Hiromi Omura Lead Utah Opera’s 2024-25 Season

The Utah Opera has announced its 2024-25 season.

The season will open with Sondheim and Wheeler’s “Sweeney Todd.” Robert Tweten leads a cast that includes Michael Mayes as the demon barber himself, Audrey Babcock, Amy Owens, Megan Marino, and Christian Sanders. Doug Scholz-Carlson directs.

Performance Dates: Oct. 12-20, 2024

Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” will be conducted by Stephanie Rhodes Russell and directed by Kyle Lang. The cast will include Sarah Coit, Maureen McKay, and Frederick Ballentine.

Performance Dates: Jan. 18-26, 2025

Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci” will be conducted by Joseph Colaneri and directed by Tara Faircloth. Jonathan Burton leads a cast that includes Lydia Grindatto and Darren Drone.

Performance Dates: March 8-16, 2025

The season concludes with Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” with Derrick Inouye conducting. The opera will star Hiromi Omura, Eric Taylor, Nmon Ford, and Nina Yoshida Nelsen.

Performance Dates: May 3-11, 2025
