Baritone Philipp Jekal Steps in for 2 Performances of ‘The Queen of Spades’ at Deutsche Oper Berlin

Baritone Philipp Jekal will replace Thomas Lehman for the two performances in the role of Count Yeletsky in the Tchaikovsky’s opera “The Queen of Spades” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, according to the official statement on the company’s website.

Jekal will step in for performances on May 16 and May 23 and the baritone will join a cast that includes Martin Muehle, Sondra Radvanovsky, Hanna Schwarz, Roman Burdenko, Judit Kutasi, Matthew Peña, Byung Gil Kim, Andrew Dickinson, Timothy Newton, Nicole Piccolomini, Anna Buslidze and Jörg Schörner.

Thomas Lehman is scheduled to appear in the role of Count Yeletsky for the remaining four performances.

Sebastian Weigle is set to conduct the completely new production by Graham Vick. Stage design and costumes are by Stuart Nunn, and light design will be by Wolfgang Göbbel.

The run of “The Queen of Spades” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin will open on May 9 and is set to run until May 28, 2020.
