Bach Collegium Japan Continues Annual ‘Messiah’ Tradition at Suntory Hall
By David SalazarWith the holiday season returning, the Bach Collegium Japan has announced that it will continue its annual tradition of presenting Händel’s “Messiah” at Suntory Hall on Dec. 24, 2024.
The showcase will be conducted once more by Masaaki Suzuki and features soprano Rachel Nicholls, countertenor Alexander Chance, tenor Makato Sakurada, and bass Toru Kaku. Nicholls worked with the Bach Collegium Japan in “Rinaldo.” Chance is a recent nominee in the Opus Klassik Young Talent of the Year for his debut album, while Sakurada has been a major player in several of the Bach Collegium Japan’s recordings. Finally, Kaku was a soloist in the organization’s performance of “Elijah.”
The performance starts at 6:30 p.m. local time and as has been the case in recent years, audiences can stream the event on the Digital Suntory Hall platform.
The annual “Messiah” tradition was started by the organization back in 2001.
