The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its July 2 gala with Matthias Goerne.

The company said that soprano Asmik Grigorian will headline the concert alongside Goerne, replacing Lise Davidsen, who announced on Friday that she was expecting twins and would be withdrawing from projects until 2026.

The company said that the Norwegian soprano had to cancel her participation in the concert after announcing her pregnancy and that she will give birth in June. It added, “The Liceu wishes soprano Lise Davidsen great success in this new chapter, confident of seeing her shine in future projects on stage.”

The Liceu said it “welcomes Asmik Grigorian, regarded as one of the most prestigious voices in the international operatic scene, who will bring her artistic excellence to a concert of profound emotional depth.”

Grigorian will perform Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder” and the “Liebestod” from Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde,” as originally planned in the program. The evening will be conducted by Josep Pons and will see music by Strauss and Wagner.

Grigorian made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu during the 2017-18 season with the opera “Demon” by Anton Rubinstein and this season returns for Dvořák’s “Rusalka.”
