Anna Netrebko, Sonya Yoncheva, Cecilia Bartoli, Marina Rebeka, Ermonela Jaho, Xabier Anduaga, Brian Jagde, Francesco Meli & Jessica Pratt Lead Teatro dell’Opera di Roma’s 2026-27 Season

The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has announced its 2026-27 season.

Opera

The season opens with Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Progress” with Michele Mariotti conducting a new production byRafael R. Villalobos.The cast includes Lawrence Brownlee, Jennifer Larmore,Daniela Barcellona, Alex Esposito, Rosalia Cid, Simone Alberghini, and Ya-Chung Huang.

Performance Dates: Nov. 27-Dec. 5, 2026


Two cast will perform Giordano’s “Andrea Chénier.”  Sonya Yoncheva, Brian Jagde, and Ludovic Tézier form the first cast while Angela Meade, Gregory Kunde, and Ariunbatar Ganbaatar star in the second cast. Marco Bellocchio directs and Daniel Oren conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 17-26, 2027


Karole Armitage directs a new production of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” with Giacomo Sagripanti conducting. Jessica Pratt and Gilda Fiume star in the title role alongside Xabier Anduaga, René Barbera, Germán Enrique Alcántara, Bogdan Baciu, Michele Pertusi, and Marko Mimica.

Performance Dates: Feb. 21-28, 2027


Pier Luigi Pizzi directs a production of Verdi’s “I due Foscari” with Riccardo Frizza conducting. The cast includes Nicola Alaimo, Marta Torbidoni, and Kang Wang. A second cast includes Lucas Meachem, Marigona Qerkezi, and Giorgio Berrugi. The cast is rounded out by Marko Mimica, Paolo Antognetti, and Carlotta Vichi.

Performance Dates: March 13-21, 2027


Robert Carsen directs  Gluck’s “Iphigénie en Tauride” with Axelle Fanyo, Alessio Arduini, Julien Behr, and Jean-Fernand Setti. Alessandro De Marchi conducts.

Shostakovich’s “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” will star Olesya Golovneva, Dmitry Ulyanov, Ya-Chung Huang, Giorgi Sturua, Caspar Krieger, Jerzy Butrin, Mirka Wagner, Maxim Kuzmin-Karavaev, and Susan Zarrabi. Barrie Kosky directs the production and Juraj Valčuha conducts.

Performance Dates: May 14-22, 2027


Daniele Menghini directs Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” with two casts. Marina Rebeka, Angelo Villari, Ekaterina Semenchuk, and George Petean. The cast includes Vasilisa Beržhanskaja, Vittorio Grigolo, and Valentina Pernozzoli. Nicola Luisotti conducts and Riccardo Fassi rounds out the cast as Ferrando.

Performance Dates: June 22-July 1, 2027


Puccini’s “La Rondine” will be directed by Andrea Bernard and conducted by Francesco Lanzillotta. Ermonela Jaho, Francesco Meli, Rosalia Cid, and Matteo Mezzaro star. Erika Grimaldi and Ivan Magrì also star in a second cast.

Performance Dates: Sept. 18-26, 2027


Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” will star Ekaterine Buachidze, Dave Monaco, Paolo Bordogna, Pietro Spagnoli, and Luca Tittoto. Mario Martone directs and Michele Mariotti conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 1-10, 2027


Opera in Concert 

Anna Netrebko and Alexander Köpeczi star in Bartok’s “Bluebeard’s Castle.” The Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Henrik Nánási. Misi Boros performs Liszt’s first piano concerto.

Cecilia Bartoli celebrates her 40th anniversary performing Rossini’sIl barbiere di Siviglia” which she sang for the first time at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma on May 27, 1987. Bartoli will be joined by Les Musiciens du Prince – Monaco and Gianluca Capuano.

Special Events 

Michele Mariotti conducts Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater” with Emőke Baráth and Sara Mingardo.
