Artist of the Week: Amartuvshin Enkhbat
Mongolian Baritone Headlines Arena di Verona Opening Night
By Francisco SalazarOn June 13, the Arena di Verona is set to open its 102nd season with a new production of “Nabucco” by Stefano Poda. The production promises to bring technology and modernity to the forefront while also showcasing some of the best Verdi voices to the stage.
Among them is Mongolian baritone Amartuvshin Enkhbat, who will headline the production with his acclaimed Nabucco. The baritone is no stranger to the role as he has performed it to great acclaim at the Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro Regio di Parma, and the Royal Opera House, among others. His interpretation has been lauded by critics, with OperaWire noting, “Amartuvshin Enkhbat delivered.” Additionally, Bachtrack has noted, “Amartuvshin Enkhbat was an imposing presence with a voice to match. He dominated as Nabucco, making up with power and precision what was occasionally lacking in legato.”
Enkhbat has become one of the most in-demand Verdian singers, performing at every major opera house and showcasing his talents in such works as “La Forza del Destino,” “Rigoletto,” “La traviata,” “Aida,” “Il Trovatore,” “Macbeth,” and “Simon Boccanegra.”
The baritone will perform a total of seven performances in Verona with three casts. For those not in Verona for “Nabucco,” he will also perform in “La Traviata” and “Aida” in Verona and later will be seen at the Berlin State Opera, San Francisco Opera, Teatro alla Scala, and Paris Opera, among others.
