Anthony Roth Costanzo Featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk

By Francisco Salazar

Opera star Anthony Roth Costanzo and the cabaret diva Justin Vivian Bond have taken part in NPR’s popular Tiny Desk concerts.

Following the tour “Only an Octave Apart,” Bond and Costanzo reunited in the countertenor’s apartment to give audiences a glimpse of the show that opened at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn last fall and landed at the New York Philharmonic.

The show is meant to be comedic, as it riffs off a decades-old routine by Beverly Sills and Carol Burnett, but through camp and preposterous musical mashups.

The setlist for the Tiny Desk concert is “Egyptian Sun (Walk Like an Egyptian/Hymn to the Sun Medley)” and “Deh Placatevi/Don’t Give Up Medley.”

This is the second time Costanzo is featured in the series as he appeared in it in 2018. Other previous Tiny Desk concerts have included Julia Bullock, Camila Cabello, Nicki Nicole, Dua Lipa, and Olivia Rodrigo.
