Anna Netrebko, Elīna Garanča, Sonya Yoncheva, Jonas Kaufmann & Luca Salsi Lead Teatro alla Scala’s 2023-24 Season

The Teatro alla Scala has announced ts 2023-24 season.

The season opens with Verdi’s “Don Carlo” which will star René Pape, Francesco Meli, Luca Salsi, Ain Anger, Anna Netrebko, and Elīna Garanča. Riccardo Chailly conducts a production by Lluis Pasqual. Maria Jose Siri and Ekaterina Semenchuk perform the final two performances.

Performance Dates: Dec. 7, 2023-Jan. 2, 2024

Sonya Yoncheva stars in Cherubini’s “Medée” in a new production by Damiano Michieletto. Michele Gamba conducts a cast that also includes Stanislas de Barbeyrac, Nahuel Di Pierro, Martina Russomanno, and Ambroisine Bré.

Performance Dates: Jan. 14-28, 2024

Luca Salsi leads Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” alongside Ain Anger, Roberto De Candia, Eleonora Buratto, Anita Hartig, Charles Castronovo, and Matteo Lippi. Lorenzo Viotti conducts the production by Daniele Abbado.

Performance Dates: Feb. 1-24, 2024

Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” is set to star Sven-Eric Bechtolf, Jessica Pratt, Jasmine Delfs, Daniel Behle, Michael Laurenz, and Peter Rose. Thomas Guggeis conducts the production by Giorgio Strehler.

Dmitry Korchak, Michele Pertusi, Nahuel Di Pierro, Evgeny Stavinsky, Marina Rebeka, and Martina Russomanno star in Rossini’s “Guillaume Tell.” Michele Mariotti conducts the production by Chiara Muti.

Performance Dates: March 20-April 10, 2024

Irina Brook directs Puccini’s “La Rondine” with a cast that includes Mariangela Sicilia, Rosalia Cid, Matteo Lippi, Giovanni Sala, and Pietro Spagnoli. Riccardo Chailly conducts.

Performance Dates: April 4-20, 2024

Mario Martone directs “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” with Giampaolo Bisanti conducting. Mascagni’s work stars Elīna Garanča, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Francesca Di Sauro, Brian Jagde, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, and Elena Zilio while Leoncavallo’s work will star Irina Lungu, Fabio Sartori, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Jinxu Xiahou, and Mattia Olivieri.

Ambrogio Maestri, Andrea Carroll, Lawrence Brownlee, and Mattia Olivieri star in Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” with Evelino Pido conducting. Davide Livermore directs.

Performance Dates: May 11-June 4, 2024

Benjamin Bernheim stars in Massenet’s “Werther” with Jean Sébastien Bou, Victoria Karkacheva, and Francesca Pia Vitale. Alain Altinoglu conducts the production by Christof Loy.

Performance Dates: June 10-July 2, 2024. 

Anna Netrebko stars in Puccini’s “Turandot” with Yusif Eyvazov, Roberto Alagna, Vitalij Kowaljow, and Rosa Feola. Davide Livermore directs and Daniel Harding conducts.

Performance Dates: June 25-July 15, 2024

Nino Rota’s “Il cappello di paglia di Firenze” will be conducted by Donato Renzetti and directed by Mario Acampa.

Performance Dates: Sept. 4-18, 2024

Roberto Carson directs Antonio Cesti’s “L’Orontea” with a cast that includes Stéphanie d’Oustrac, Mirco Palazzi, Francesca Pia Vitale, Hugh Cutting, Luca Tittoto, Sara Blanch, Marianna Pizzolato, Carlo Vistoli, and Maria Nazarova. Giovanni Antonini conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 26-Oct. 5, 2024

Krassimira Stoyanova, Günther Groissböck, Kate Lindsey, Johannes Martin Kränzle, and Sabine Devieilhe star in Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” with Kirill Petrenko conducting. Harry Kupfer directs the production.

Performance Dates: Oct. 12-29, 2024

Sir David McVicar directs Wagner’s “Das Rheingold” with Christian Thielemann conducting. The cast is led by Michael Volle, Andrè Schuen, Norbert Ernst, Johannes Martin Kränzle, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, Jongmin Park, Ain Anger, Okka von der Damerau, Olga Bezsmertna, Christa Mayer, Andrea Carroll, Svetlina Stoyanova, and Virginie Verrez.
