Americans & Russians Lead Operalia 2021’s Semifinalists

The Operalia Competition has announced the semifinalists for its 2021 edition.

In the opera category, the semi-finalists including tenor Ivan Ayon-Rivas (Peru), mezzo-soprano
 Gayane Babajanyan (Russia), bass-baritone Vladislav Buialskyi (Ukraine),  baritone Dmitry Cheblykov (Russia), bass SungJun Cho (South Korea), mezzo-soprano Linsey Coppens (Belgium), tenor Bekhzod Davronov (Uzbekistan),  soprano Mané Galoyan (Armenia), tenor Jonah Hoskins (USA),  mezzo-soprano Lilia Istratii (Moldova), mezzo-soprano Victoria Karkacheva (Russia),  tenor Josh Lovell (Canada),  tenor Valery Makarov (Russia),  countertenor Keymon Murrah (USA), baritone Edward Nelson (USA), bass-baritone Jusung Park (South Korea), soprano Emily Pogorelc (USA), soprano Ekaterina Sannikova (Russia), soprano Valeriia Savinskaia (Russia), and tenor Joshua Wheeker (USA).

The USA and Russia were the two countries with most representatives in the semi-finals with five and six representatives, respectively.

Over in the Zarzuela category, the semifinalists included tenor Ivan Ayon-Rivas (Peru), mezzo Gayane Babajanyan (Russia), tenor Bekhzod Davronov (Uzbekistan
), soprano Mané Galoyan (Armenia),  tenor Jonah Hoskins (USA
), soprano Emily Pogorelc (USA), soprano Alexandra Razskazoff (USA), bairitone Ricardo José Rivera (USA), and soprano Ekaterina Sannikova (Russia).

Again, the USA and Russia were the most represented countries in this group with four Americans and two Russians competing.

The semifinals are set for Wednesday Oct. 20 with the final set for Sunday, Oct. 24. At that performance, the finalists will perform under the baton of competition founder Plácido Domingo.
