Alexander Elliot & Lauren Michelle Lead Opera Omaha’s ‘Eugene Onegin’

By Francisco Salazar

Opera Omaha will close its 2021-2022 season with a new production of Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin.”

The production will be directed by Rosetta Cucchi, who noted, “Tchaikovsky described his Onegin not as an opera, but as ‘lyric scenes’ and I wanted to follow this advice. Therefore, like an iris of a camera that closes and opens again, the memories will appear, and the audience will come inside, scene by scene, together with Tatyana, experiencing with her the flavor of a life lived.”

The production will be conducted by Steven White who returns to Opera Omaha after last conducting Opera Under the Stars in spring 2021 and “Faust” in 2018.

Alexander Elliott will take on the title role while Lauren Michelle will sing the role of Tatyana. The cast will be rounded out by  Scott Quinn, Hilary Ginther, Victoria Livengood, and David Pittsinger.

“Eugene Onegin” will be performed on April 22 and 24, 2022.
