On Saturday, March 20, ABAO Bilbao Opera and Yotumi Kids will “El Viaje de Ludi,” in a production directed by Guillermo Amaya.

The work combines the power of music with the magic of theater and, with “help” from composer Ludwig van Beethoven, takes audiences on a journey through Europe to discover the history of music.

The show, which lasts 60 minutes and is aimed at families and children, stars Raúl Peña as Beethoven with tenor Manuel Gómez Ruiz as Gunther, a young composer who admires the German master and wants to follow in his footsteps. Finally, mezzo-soprano Marta Infante appears as Gertrud, Beethoven’s caretaker.

The text was created by Ana Alcolea, a playwright who specializes in youth literature. Set and costume design will be by Pedro Chamizo, who will also be in charge of lighting and video projections.

In addition to the performance on March 20, “El Viaje de Ludi” will also be presented on Sunday, March 21 at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. local time.
