Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen Takes Home Top Prize at Gerda Lissner Foundation’s International Vocal Competition 2024

The Gerda Lissner Foundation has announced the 2024 winners of its International Vocal Competition.

In the Opera Division, countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen took home the top prize, the Liederkranz Foundation Award. The other winners in the division include baritone Yeongtaek Yang (First Prize), mezzo-soprano Maire Therese Carmack (second prize), and soprano Karoline Podolak (third prize). Taking home the Judge’s Special prizes were soprano Tatev Baroyan and tenor Matthew Cairns.

In the Operetta and Zarzuela division, soprano Shelen Hughes took home the First Prize Scott Barnes Memorial Award and mezzo-soprano Rosario Armas was the second prize recipient.

Grant winners included Gabrielle Beteag, Alice Chung, Jana McIntyre, Gemma Nha, Jazmine Olwalia, Joseph Sacchi, and Yichen Xue. Finally, the Encourancement Winners were Susanne Burgess, Joanne Evans, Evan Gray, Melissa Joseph, Donghoon Kang, Emilie Kealani, and Julia Stuart.

The judges for the competition included Michael Benchetrit, Ken Benson, Maestro Mark Shapiro, Dona D. Vaughn, and Midge Woolsey.
