Third Coast Baroque is set to present a showcase spotlighting the music from Antonio Vivaldi’s “Orlando Furioso” in Chicago and Evaston.

The concerts, set for April 17 and 18 at the Nichols Concert Hall and First Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple, respectively will be headlined by mezzo-soprano Angela Young Smucker. She will be accompanied by the TCB Chamber Ensemble and violinist Martin Davids.

Among the arias performed will be Orlando’s “Nel Profondo” and “Sorge l’irato nembo,” Alcina’s “Cosi potessi anch’io,” Bradamente’s “Taci, non ti langar,” and Angelica’s “Poveri affetti miei, siete innocent.”

“Because they’re so seldom heard, the ‘Orlando furioso’ arias will be thrilling discoveries for many concertgoers,” Smucker stated in a press release. “And the instrumental chamber works offer a highly pleasurable change of pace from Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons.’”

Smucker has performed with such organizations as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Music of the Baroque, Oregon Bach Festival, Conspirare, Seraphic Fire, Haymarket Opera Company, Bach Collegium San Diego, Les Délices, Carmel Bach Festival, Newberry Consort, Leipzig Baroque Orchestra, and Santa Fe Desert Chorale.
