Rutgers Presbyterian Church to Host ‘Remembering Gheorghe Costinescu’

The Rutgers Presbyterian Church will be the site of “Remembering Gheorghe Costinescu” on Dec. 7, 2024.

The showcase will shine the spotlight on the composer, conductor, pianist, musicologist, and artist with live performance and live performance videos featuring a number of artists.

Soprano Lucy Shelton will appear in a live performance video of “Jublius” and there will also be a live performance video of “Phonetic Musical Exercise and Stuttering Aria” featuring Costinescu himself. Other artists on the concert include pianist Stephen Gosling and violinist Vesselin Gelev.

There will be a reception following the concert.

Costinescu was born in 1934 and passed away in 2023. He held teaching positions at The Juilliard School, Columbia University, and the New School for Social Research. He was also awarded grants and prizes from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the American Music Center, Meet the Composer, and the Ford Foundation.
