
Opera Steamboat & Piknik Theatre to Present Opera Cowgirls Concert
By David SalazarOpera Steamboat, in partnership with Piknik Theatre, will present the Opera Cowgirls in concert at the newly completed Branham Strawberry Park Amphitheater in Steamboat Springs, Colorado on July 3, 2026.
The performance marks one of the first public events at the new outdoor venue, which Piknik Theatre recently brought to completion.
The Opera Cowgirls are an alt-country ensemble founded by mezzo-soprano Caitlin McKechney, that also includes soprano and cellist Sarah Beckham-Turner, soprano Maria Maxfield, soprano Jessica Sandidge, and multi-instrumentalist Mila Henry. The ensemble has performed at venues ranging from BAM’s Lepercq Space and Le Poisson Rouge in New York to Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Pensacola Opera, San Francisco Ballet, and West Texas A&M University, and was presented by Pittsburgh Opera as part of the opening celebrations for the 2023 OPERA America Conference.
The Steamboat Springs concert takes place as the Cowgirls also prepare for involvement in the world premiere of “Carmen: The Traveler,” conceived by McKechney and to be presented by Pensacola Opera.
The performance kicks off at at 7 p.m. local time.
