Chicago Fringe Opera & The Opera Cowgirls to Present ‘Operapalooza’

By David Salazar

Chicago Fringe Opera joins forces with The Opera Cowgirls to present “Operapalooza” Music Festival.

Set for May 10, 2025, at The Color Club in Chicago, the festival will also feature The Rosina Project and The Tapestry, showcasing a wide-ranging crossover between opera and pop music. In sum, there will be four opera-fusion acts.

The Opera Cowgirls’ performance is being described as “grand opera meets the Grand ol’ Opry!” while The Rosina Project is a hip-hop retelling of “The Barber of Seville.” The Tapestry, a rock-opera fusion band, will showcase a wide range of classics from Pink Floyd to “Les Misérables.” And between each of the acts, Chicago Fringe Opera’s Improv Opera Troupe will take the spotlight.

“We hope that the audience, first and foremost, has an amazing time!  There is literally something for everyone… hip-hop, country, rock, improv, theater and classical music… and we think this festival will prove that, like much of American culture, blending of styles and influences can create something entirely new and inspiring,” Caitlin McKechney of the Opera Cowgirls told OperaWire via email.

The showcase kicks off at 7 p.m. local time.
