Opera Cowgirls Headed to Delaware Valley Opera

By David Salazar

Delaware Valley Opera is set to present “The Opera Cowgirls” on August 13 and 14, 2022.

The showcase, which will take place at The Delaware Valley Opera Center in Lake Huntington, New York, will feature a unique blend of opera classics in a modern style.

The ensemble, comprised of Caitlin McKechney, Sarah Beckham-Turner, Mila Henry, Maria Lindsey and Jessica Sandidge, performed with the Delaware Valley Opera in August of 2021. Of that performance, Margaret Bruetsch of the Sullivan County Democrat noted, “These ladies were beyond impressive – they can sing two different styles of music, they can play their own musical instruments, they can abandon those instruments and sing a capella, they were humorous and theatrical, and they gave the audience a truly unforgettable night of music.”

Per their official website, the ensemble started off when mezzo-soprano Caitlin McKechney was asked to open a rock show in Brooklyn. She delivered an aria from “Carmen” and received massive applause. From there, she knew that there was an audience for opera outside traditional spaces.

The performance on the 13th starts at 7 p.m. with the showcase on the 14th set for 2 p.m.
