Opera Australia to Present ‘The Merry Widow’

Opera Australia opens its Sydney Winter season with Lehár’s “The Merry Widow.”

Sharing the role of Hanna Glavari is Julie Lea Goodwin and Emma Pearson who makes her role debut.  Alexander Lewis, David Whitney, John Longmuir, Virgilio Marino, Alexandra Flood, Benjamin Rasheed, Richard Anderson, Alexander Hargreaves, Jane Ede, Iain Henderson, Nathan Lay, Helen Sherman, Tom Hamilton, and Dominica Matthews make up the remainder of the cast.

They are joined by the Opera Australia Chorus and Orchestra under the baton of Vanessa Scammell. Michael Scott-Mitchell, Jennifer Irwin, Damien Cooper, and Jim Atkins are among the creative team. Graeme Murphy is the director and choreographer.

The operetta takes place on July 8 on the Joan Sutherland Theatre stage. The run goes through Aug. 18.
