Opera Australia to Tour ‘Don Giovanni’ Nationally
By David SalazarOpera Australia will open its 2026 National Tour with Michael Gow’s production of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” in South Australia this July.
The tour will then take the Mozart opera to Victoria, New South Wales, and Tasmania, marking the 30th anniversary of the company’s national touring program.
The production, which last toured in 2013, will be conducted by Simon Bruckard, who leads a double cast featuring Christian Haotian Qi and Andrew Williams in the title role; Celeste Lazarenko and Jessica Blunt as Donna Anna; Kiran Rajasingam and Stephen Marsh as Leporello; Tomas Dalton and Shanul Sharma as Don Ottavio; Cathy-Di Zhang and Jane Magão as Zerlina; Chelsea Burns and Hennifer Bonner as Donna Elvira; Eddie Muliaumaseali’i as Commendatore; and Benjamin Del Borrello as Masetto.
Tasmanian audiences will also have the opportunity to attend “A Night with Opera Australia,” a one-night showcase of arias and ensemble pieces from the operatic canon, including highlights from “Don Giovanni,” scheduled for August 25 at the Albert Hall in Launceston.
Opera Australia’s National Tour has delivered more than 720 performances to over 330,000 people across 139 locations since its launch in 1996. The National Tour is supported by the Opera Conference, Creative Australia, Create NSW, and Creative Victoria.
