National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) to Present Verdi’s ‘Il Trovatore’

The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) is set to present Giuseppe Verdi’s “Il Trovatore.”

The showcase, set to take place on Sept. 3–6, 2026, will be presented in a new production by stage director Pier Francesco Maestrini and set designer Nicolas Boni; the duo was at the forefront of Weiwuying’s 2024 staging of “Manon Lescaut.”

Conductor Chien Wen-pin will lead the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, with the Planetesimal Vocal Art Studio serving as the chorus.

The cast for the Sept. 3 and 5 performances features Jung Ilhun as Il Conte di Luna, Keng Li as Leonora, Weng Jo-pei as Azucena, and George Oniani as Manrico. The Sept. 4 and 6 performances will star Rodrigo Esteves, Marta Mari, and Chiara Mogini in the principal roles, with Manrico to be announced. Hsieh Ming-mou, Lin Wen-hua, and Chang Yin-chi complete the ensemble.
