On May 26 at the Teatro alla Scala, Marta Torbidoni performed the role of Abigaille replacing the originally announced Anna Netrebko.
According to reports, Superintendent Fortunato Ortombina took the stage before the performance to announce that Netrebko would not be able to perform due to a travel mishap. Per reports the audience was unhappy with the news.
Torbidoni, who was already scheduled for the performance on June 4, 6, and 9, was reportedly called at 7 p.m. for the performance, which began at 8 p.m.
Torbidoni took to social media and said, “There are nights you don’t prepare: they just arrive. Yesterday I walked on the stage of Teatro alla Scala to suddenly replace Anna Netrebko in Nabucco. Little time to breathe and refuel… I am grateful to those who were in the hall, to the orchestra, to the maestro Chailly, to the whole Scala team for supporting me in this play full of adrenaline.”
Netrebko returns to the production on May 29 and 31.
