FEDORA Opera Prize Winner ‘The Curing Line’ Set to World Premiere in Ireland
By David SalazarFEDORA Prizes will present the world premiere of “The Curing Line,” winner of the FEDORA Opera Prize 2025, at Kilkenny Arts Festival’s Watergate Theatre in Ireland this August.
Irish music-theatre company Straymaker presents the work, composed by Michael Gallen and co-directed by Shawn Fitzgerald Ahern. The immersive, multi-platform opera blends traditional sean-nós singing, industrial soundscapes, and techno music to explore themes of healing, cultural loss, and environmental collapse. The production is supported by The Silver Company, in collaboration with Opera Europa.
“The artists we support dare to explore new forms, and tackle subjects that opera and dance have never addressed in quite this way,” said FEDORA President Stéphane Argyropoulos, per an official press release.
The opera premieres on August 7, 2026.
The company also revealed the premieres of two other Biennale 2025 winners. First up is Northern Ballet’s “Gentleman Jack,” premiering at Leeds Grand Theatre in March, and Studio M.A.R.S.’s extended reality work “YUM!,” set for Bregenzer Festspiele in August.
