Glyndebourne Announces Apprenticeship Program for Technical & Production Professionals

By David Salazar

Glyndebourne has announced a new apprenticeship program.

The program will seek to train the next generation of technical and production professionals in the performing arts through a paid, hands-on experience.

Designed as an alternative to traditional university education, the program allows apprentices to gain practical experience directly from industry professionals while building networks to support their careers. They will work alongside Glyndebourne’s creative teams and get a chance to balance on-the-job learning with structured theoretical training delivered by accredited providers. Moreover, each apprenticeship will include a final assessment conducted by an external assessor to ensure graduates meet professional industry standards.

Four roles are currently offered: Technical Theatre, Wigs, Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics Technician, Assistant Production Manager, and Audio Visual Technician, with applications for 2026 openings to follow. Training for Wigs, Hair and Makeup apprentices will include sessions at Northbrook College, part of the Chichester College Group, which supports apprentices at leading UK theatres including the Royal Shakespeare Company and Chichester Festival Theatre.

“Our aim is to open the doors to a broader range of talented individuals who might not otherwise have a pathway into our industry. Apprenticeships allow people to learn directly from experienced professionals while contributing to real productions, which is an incredibly powerful way to build both skill and confidence,” Sam Garner-Gibbons, Glyndebourne’s newly appointed Technical & Production Director, said, per an official press release.
