
Opera North & Wells Cathedral School to Host Summer of Music Making for Children
By Afton MarkayThe members of the Association of British Orchestras (ABO) are presenting live music making activities for children as part of the UK’s #AnOrchestrainEverySchool initiative.
The events which take place throughout the UK feature interactive performances and workshops for a variety of age groups. Partnered organizations promoting opera are Opera North and Wells Cathedral School.
Opera North will give participants the opportunity to play orchestral repertoire alongside professional musicians of the Orchestra of Opera North. The day will be divided into group warm ups, instrumental sectionals, and full rehearsals with students and members of the Orchestra of Opera North playing together. This program is geared toward young musicians approximately ABRSM Grade 4+ standard. All participants must be under the age of 18. The event is scheduled for Aug. 27.
Wells Cathedral School is offering the International Vocal Summer School to young soloists preparing to embark on study at music conservatoires. Singers accepted will be offered the chance to perform in short early opera or operetta scenes. The age range for this program is 16-19 year old. The International Vocal Summer School will run Aug. 10-16.
