Cedille Records Launches Ruth Bader Ginsburg Tribute Album

By Logan Martell

In honor of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s 25 years on the United States Supreme Court, Cedille Records has launched their album “Notorious RBG in Song.”

The album, which was released on June 8, 2018, touches not only on Justice Ginsburg’s professional life, but her family life as well. Soprano Patrice Michaels, who studied under Dominick Argento, has composed a song cycle for the album titled “THE LONG VIEW,’ which draws upon Michael’s many hours of research into Ginsburg’s letters and court opinions. Her insight is further aided by her marriage to Ginsburg’s son James, president of Cedille Records as well as producer for the album.

Joining them in this tribute album are several noteworthy composers, including Lori Laitman, whose setting of Emily Dickinson’s “Wider than the Sky,” was performed at Ginsburg’s 80th birthday celebration; Vivian Fung, Stacy Garrop, and Derrick Wang, whose aria “You are Searching in Vain for a Bright-Line Solution,” first appeared in his one-act comic opera “Scalia/Ginsburg.”
