Yonghoon Lee, Olga Peretyatko, Leah Crocetto, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Lise Lindstrom Headline Opera Australia’s 2022 Season

Opera Australia has announced its 2022 season.

Sydney Season

First up in the summer season will be “La Bohème” directed by Gale Edwards and conducted by Lorenzo Passerini and Paul Fitzsimon. The opera will star Valeria Sepe, Kang Wang, Julie Lea Goodwin, Haotian Qi, Shane Lowrencev, and Richard Anderson.

Performance Dates: Dec. 31, 2021 – Feb. 4, 2022

Next up is Puccini’s “Turandot” with Yonghoon Lee, Karah Son, Ivan Gyngazov, and Mariana Hong. Lise Lindstrom and Anna-Louise Cole will share the title role. Christian Badea and Leonardo Sini will conduct.

Performance Dates: Jan. 12 – March 14, 2022 

David McVicar will direct “The Marriage of Figaro” starring Mario Cassi as the Count opposite Ekaterina Morozova as the Countess. Stacey Alleaume appears as Susanna and Tommaso Barea is Figaro. Andrea Molino conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 27 – Feb. 18, 2022

Yonghoon Lee makes his role debut in “Otello.” Karah Son appears as Desdemona with Marco Vratogna as Iago. Harry Kupfer directs while Andrea Battistoni conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 19 – March 19, 2022

Halévy’s “La Juive” will star Natalie Aroyan, Esther Song, and Shanul Sharma. Carlo Montanaro conducts a production by Olivier Py.

Performance Dates: March 9 -26, 2022

Madama Butterfly” will star Sae-Kyung Rim, Chanyang Choi, and Ivan Magri. Carlo Montanaro conducts Graeme Murphy’s production.

Performance Dates: June 29-July 30, 2022 

La Traviata” will be directed by Elijah Moshinsky and conducted by Renato Palumbo and Tahu Matheson. The July cast stars Stacey Alleaume, Saimir Pirgu, and Mario Cassi, while in October, audiences will see Irina Lungu, Jin-Min Park, and José Carbó.

Performance Dates: July 5 – 29, 2022 & Oct. 22 – Nov. 4, 2022 

“Il Trovatore” will be headlined by Yonghoon Lee, Leah Crocetto, Elena Gabouri, and Maksim Aniskin. Andrea Battistoni conducts a production by Davide Livermore.

Performance Dates: July 15 – 30, 2022 

Davide Livermore will direct “Attila” in a production starring Ilda Abdrazakov, Natalie Aroyan, Diego Torre, and Marco Vratogna. Andrea Battistoni conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 29- Nov. 5, 2022 

The company will also present outdoor productions of “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Carmen.”

There will also be presentations of “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.”

Concert Performances 

The company will showcase “Great Opera Hits” by Bizet, Verdi, and Mozart.

Performance Dates: Dec. 26 – Oct. 30, 2022

Olga Peretyatko and Carmen Topciu will star in a concert rendition of “Maria Stuarda.” Renato Palumbo conducts.

Performance Dates: March 23 & 25, 2022

Melbourne Season

The autumn season kicks off with a production of “La Traviata” directed by Elijah Moshinsky and conducted by Renato Palumbo. The opera will star Stacey Alleaume in her role debut as Violetta. Ho-Yoon Chung and José Carbó round out the lead cast as Alfredo and Germont respectively.

Performance Dates: May 4-28, 2022 

Next up is “Lohengrin” starring Emily Magee, Elena Gabouri, Marco Vratogna, and Roberto Aronica. Olivier Py directs while Tahu Matheson conducts.

Performance Dates: May 14-24, 2022 

The company will also present a production of “Phantom of the Opera.”

Performance Dates: Oct. 30 – Dec. 31, 2022

There will also be a national tour of “The Barber of Seville” directed by Priscilla Jackman.

Concert Performances 

The company will present a concert performance of “Mefistofele” starring Leah Crocetto, Diego Torres, Natalie Aroyan, and Ferruccio Furlanetto. Andrea Battistoni conducts while Matthew Barclay directs.

Performance Dates: May 25-27, 2022 

Ferruccio Furlanetto and pianist Natalia Sidorenko will perform music by Brahms, Mussorgsky, Mozart, Verdi, and Rachmaninoff.

Performance Date: June 1, 2022.
