Opera Australia has announced that it will present two outdoor spectacles in 2022.

First up will be a production of “The Phantom of the Opera” at Sydney Harbour. The musical, which will run between March 25 and April 24, 2022, will be directed by Simon Phillips and feature designs by Gabriela Tyleova.

“It’s a particular thrill to be creating a brand new outdoor production of the iconic The Phantom of the Opera,” said Opera Australia Artistic Director Lydon Terracini in a press release. “It gives the whole company a great confidence boost knowing we’ve been entrusted to present this event in line with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s incredibly high production values.”

That will be followed up by “Carmen” at Cockatoo Island. The opera will be directed by Liesel Badorrek, who will work alongside choreographer Shannon Burns. Tahu Matheson will conduct the Opera Australia Orchestra. The production is set to run between Nov. 25 – Dec. 18, 2022.
