Yakima Symphony Orchestra & Yakima School District Announce Historic Partnership
By David SalazarThe Yakima Symphony Orchestra has announced a partnership with the Yakima School District that will bring the orchestra to A.C. Davis High School for its 2027–28 season while the historic Capitol Theatre undergoes a comprehensive three-year renovation.
The Capitol Theatre’s renovation, a multi-million dollar initiative, begins in summer 2026. The project’s phased approach will allow the Symphony to continue performing at the Capitol Theatre through the 2026–27 season before relocating to the Davis High School Auditorium for 2027–28, with a planned return to the Capitol for 2028–29.
To accommodate the full orchestra on the Davis stage, the Symphony will fund and construct a modular stage extension in summer 2027, designed in partnership with Arts Tech Group of Renton, Washington. The extension will project approximately 15 feet into the auditorium and will be funded through a special capital campaign launching during the 2026–27 season.
“This partnership reflects what is possible when schools and community organizations work together to expand opportunities for students. The A.C. Davis High School Auditorium will serve as a bridge between professional musicians and our students, bringing live performance and mentorship directly into the educational experience.” said Trevor Greene, Superintendent of Yakima School District, per an official press release.
The partnership will feature a significant expansion of the Symphony’s educational programming, with the ensemble reviving its chamber music school visit program with professional musicians forming chamber ensembles to perform in schools across the district. The Symphony’s student concert series will double from two to four concerts per season, with students also granted access to dress rehearsals.
An inaugural concert at Davis High School Auditorium is scheduled for August 30, 2026, as the finale of the Symphony’s Summer Chamber Music Series.
