The board of the Kennedy Center will have to delay inscribing Trump’s name on the performing arts building.

In a hearing on Thursday, August 27, District Judge Christopher Cooper questioned the board’s insistence on adding Trump’s name as soon as Sept. 8 and described the date as arbitrary.

The hearing also saw Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick speak to the press and once again inferred that the Kennedy Center would eventually be demolished. He said, “It’s just an eventuality, but that’s not going to happen.” He also said the Trump was the “greatest fundraiser and greatest builder ever.”

The board will now have to wait until October to add the President’s name to the building.

The news comes after earlier this year, Judge Cooper ordered the board to take down Trump’s name from the building as it was renamed illegally. He said, renaming the center “The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts” violated federal law  and that the building could not be named for anyone other than the late president Kennedy.

It also comes after the board, voted on August 13 to add an inscription below the Kennedy Center’s sign that says the venue was “Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump.” The board also intends to add another reference to Trump if an endowment reaches $100 million is reached. The center also plans to rename the physical site the building it sits on in honor of Trump.
