Teatro alla Scala Announces Free Streaming Platform

Thanks to the support of Intesa Sanpaolo, the platform is moving from a paid offering to a free service. The Teatro alla Scala Foundation explains that making the content available to everyone is part of a strategy to enhance and share its heritage and expand opportunities for access and discovery. This strategy will see the platform evolve, simplifying its use and diversifying its content in ever-closer dialogue with other outreach initiatives.
LaScalaTV was launched in 2023. The installation of nine remotely activated cameras in the Piermarini Theatre, allows live broadcasts of operas, ballets, and concerts, which then can be catalogued. In three years, the platform has created an archive of 31 recent operas, 13 historic titles, eight ballets, 26 concerts, and a series of in-depth studies and educational content.
Content now available includes performances by singers such as Eleonora Buratto, Anna Netrebko, Camilla Nylund, Lisette Oropesa, Sondra Radvanovsky, Marina Rebeka, Sonya Yoncheva, Roberto Alagna, Benjamin Bernheim, Vittorio Grigolo, Francesco Meli, and Luca Salsi. Among conductors featured on the platform are Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Daniele Gatti, Thomas Guggeis, Fabio Luisi, Susanna Mälkki, Christophe Rousset, Speranza Scappucci, Simone Young, and Lorenzo Viotti. There are also several historic recordings with conductors like Claudio Abbado and Riccardo Muti. The platform also includes ballet and educational shows for children.
Once in its new phase, the catalogue will offer more recordings of operas and concerts from recent seasons including the 2025 performance of Florian Leopold Gassman’s “L’opera seria” and Mozart’s “Requiem” conducted by Thomas Guggeis in 2024. The program of upcoming streaming events and new productions will be announced soon.
