The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that Ludovic Tézier will once again sing the role of Scarpia on Sept. 9, replacing Erwin Schrott, who is injured.

Tézier took over the first two performances of “Tosca” on Sept. 3 and Sept. 6. For the Sept. 9 performance, Tézier will once again join Carmen Giannattasio in the title role and Fabio Sartori as Cavaradossi. Axel Kober conducts the legendary production by Margarethe Wallmann. He is also in the middle of a production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” which opened on Sept. 5 and stars Pretty Yende and Frédéric Antoun.

The baritone’s 2021-22 Vienna will also include productions of “Otello” and “Rigoletto.”

Over the summer the baritone performed the role of Scarpia in two different productions in Salzburg with Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov and in Graz with Jonas Kaufmann and Kristine Opolais.

“Tosca” runs through Sept. 11 with Erwin Schrott expected to sing the final performance.
