Wiener Staatsoper Announces Cast Change for Second Performance of ‘Tosca

By Francisco Salazar

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its Sept. 6 performances of Puccini’s “Tosca.”

The company noted that Ludovic Tézier will once again sing the role of Scarpia,  replacing Erwin Schrott, who is injured.

Tézier took over the opening night performance of “Tosca” on Sept. 3 and opened a new production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Pretty Yende and Frédéric Antoun in Vienna on Sept. 5.

The baritone recently performed the role of Scarpia in two different productions in Salzburg with Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov and in Graz with Jonas Kaufmann and Kristine Opolais.

For the Sept. 6 performance, Tézier will join a cast that includes Carmen Giannattasio in the title role and Fabio Sartori as Cavaradossi. Axel Kober conducts the legendary production by Margarethe Wallmann.

“Tosca” runs through Sept. 11 with Erwin Schrott expected to return to the production on Sept. 9.
