Wiener Staatsoper Announces Cast Change for ‘Tannhäuser’
By Francisco SalazarThe Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its production of “Tannhäuser.”
The company said that Martin Gantner will sing the role of Wolfram, replacing Ludovic Tézier.
The cancellation came at the same time as the baritone was forced to cancel his “Parsifal” performances also in Vienna, which were held on April 17, 20, and 23, and was replaced by Jordan Shanahan.
Tézier said, “I am working to regain my health with the same determination that I have always shown on stage.”
Gantner is set to join a cast that includes Günther Groissböck, Clay Hilley, Daniel Jenz, Simon Neal, Malin Byström, and Ekaterina Gubanova. Philippe Jordan conducts the new production by Lydia Steier.
“Tannhäuser” is set to open on May 22 and runs through June 4. Tézier is set to revive the production during the 225-26 season.
